How to Win When You Feel Like a Slave to Your Circumstances

This blog is my breathing space. The writing process helps me probe my heart, like a surgeon with a scalpel, to find what’s amiss. Yoga keeps me centered, challenged, and able to tame my inner critic. Both practices have allowed me to bend when I felt inflexible. With my keyboard and my mat, I can conquer the world. But even with these awesome tools in my arsenal, I still have days when I feel like a slave to my circumstances. Know what I mean?

Life Hits Hard

Have you ever been walking along with your business-as-usual attire, thinking ordinary thoughts, and then bam!… some jerk in a truck rounds the corner and the cold spray from his tire leaves you wearing a mud puddle? That’s life. It hits us with the unexpected, the job loss, the health crisis, the everyday disasters big and small.

How to Win When You Feel Like a Slave to Your Circumstances

We all have good reasons to gripe, and bad people to gripe about. Life is rainbows and romance, but it’s also disease, divorce, and a whole lot of drudgery, too. One thing life guarantees: You will get knocked down sometimes. But here’s what helps me when I feel like a slave to my circumstances.

Remember: You Have the Power…

In his classic book Think and Grow Rich, Napoleon Hill said:    

“Man is the master of his environment because he has the power to influence his subconscious mind. Through it, he can gain the cooperation of the infinite intelligence.”

The Principle of Auto Suggestion, and How it Can Empower You 

Hill’s book outlines a method for achieving your desired outcome. It’s called the principle of auto suggestion, and it works when we declare what we want and then convince ourselves we will have it. Don’t confuse this method with wishful thinking; it’s much more methodical. 

In a previous post, I talked about optimism, and the secret to making sh*t happen. The principle of auto suggestion goes one step further, but it starts with making an audible statement, even if you don’t have a plan or fully believe your own words.

Make Your Faith Statement

If you don’t see how your situation can change, don’t worry. Simply write down your desired outcome. You could say, “By this time next year, I will be sitting in the corner office, with a gold nameplate on my desk that reads Director.”  Or maybe your goals are health-focused, or relationship-centered. Although Hill’s book speaks to wealth and abundance, his formula can be applied to any aspect of your life. So make your faith statement. Be specific, adding dates and details, as if it were a binding contract. 

Next, visualize your goal, and continue to repeat your faith statement throughout your day until you find that you’re actually describing the landscape of your new life circumstances.

Put Your Faith Statement to Work

Your declaration begins to work as you train your subconscious mind to trust your statement. Your own actions then align with an infinite source to propel you toward your goal. Soon you’ll find paths you never explored, ideas you never imagined, and all the power you need to bring reality up to speed with your subconscious.

I made my statement of faith on paper, and recorded it on my phone as well. I repeat it daily, and listen to it often. Will you join me on this journey? Are you ready to find your personal bliss, to manifest your soul purpose?

    This is just what I needed this week. I had one of those “when it rains it pours” kind of weeks. Honestly, I have had a negative attitude most of the week. When I changed my thoughts, it really did help. Now I am on the upswing. 😉
