How to Invite Your Next Breakthrough

Life is fluid. And whether we welcome change or fearfully resist it, it is inevitable. But that’s not to say that our lives don’t occasionally feel stagnant, and that the muddy waters of mediocre circumstances aren’t weighing us down. So what do we do when we feel stuck, when our breakthroughs seem lost in oblivion?

I’ve been thinking about this, allowing my imagination to frolic with enigmatic possibilities. It’s something I’ve begun to do after my yoga home practice. Lying on my mat with my hand on my heart, I listen to the miracle of my own breath and marvel at the physiological process in which I am engaged without effort. Ever think about that — the fact that life is happening for you, within in, and without requiring any strain or toil of you? Fucking phenomenal!

It’s humbling. It’s amazing, and yet so incredibly basic to sit with your breath and the absolute certainty that the universe has your back. But if you don’t believe that, I mean fully cling to it like an athlete with a ball, you will never see your breakthrough. Visualize that for a moment — you with your possibilities clutched to your chest while every obstacle barrels towards you like a burly ball player on the opposing team.

Here’s my problem: I wonder how my breakthroughs will happen. I tussle with the details, the temptation to “figure it all out.” But problem-solving can be your breakthrough’s enemy. Because sometimes we can’t see the beginning to the end, and so we entertain worry, doubt and fear. But thoughts become things, so we end up creating the very reality we dreaded. Don’t be your own hater.

In another post, I said the surest way to fail is to talk yourself out of moving forward. But if we can maintain an UNWAVERING belief that goes beyond our trials and errors, we’ll find ourselves achieving our dreams…in ways we couldn’t fathom.

How to Invite Your Next Breakthrough

Make Space

As I mentioned in my post 5 Steps to a Successful Yoga Home Practice, we have to make space for the things we want in our lives. And in regard to your breakthroughs, that translates to belief. So make space in your head. Clear the clutter and stop talking about what you hope will happen. Because hope is good, but it leaves room for error. Think about that for a second…

What if you invited a friend to your home and she responded, “I hope I can make it.” Does that sound promising? Hope is half-assed, my friend. Let’s decide that our breakthroughs will undeniably happen, even if we don’t know how.

Seize Your Opportunities

Sometimes we keep our own breakthroughs at bay. We fail to act when opportunities arise, and sometimes it’s a result of our negative self-images. I recently told someone a secret I’ve harbored for years, one that crippled me for decades: I have always thought I was “stupid.”

Sounds silly, right? I mean, clearly, I am a genius (ha ha). But I have lacked confidence my whole life. As a creative individual, I’m prone to daydreaming. That’s made it difficult for me to focus, which caused problems for me early on. It frustrated me and the people close to me, who would often treat me as though I was stupid –even calling me names for my inability to pay attention at times. And so I swallowed that negative seed, and let it grow in the soil of my life.

Perhaps that’s why I am so committed to self-improvement. Here’s a simple yet profound truth: You’ll never be anyone other than the person you think you are. So when you see your opportunities, seize them with confidence!

Here are three mantras I’ve created for myself. I repeat these daily as a means to convince my subconscious mind of the basic truths required to invite my own breakthroughs:

  1. I am powerful.
  2. I am capable.
  3. I am led.

Finally, Understand That The Creative Power of The Universe is at Work Within You. YOU! Put your hand on your heart now. Feel that? It’s the rhythm of potential. The same energy that formed the stars exists within you. Let your breath bear witness. And your desires, your longing for greatness? They are divinely implanted. In other words, you want what you want because the universe wants you to have it. You were born to create it.

Tap into the power that’s implanted in your soul and ignite your next breakthrough.

What you seek is seeking you. ~ Rumi

For sure the truth is within you. I think I may come back and read when my energy starts to fail me. I am a case study in change and moving forward lol. It is what I do, always looking toward something better. My two life mottos are “keep it moving” and “time to do awesome again”. lol

How usually messes me up. Especially when I think I need to come up with the how. My brain can think of about 3 ways to how. The universe has about infinity ways to how. I’ve gotten much better at being clear on my what and then remaining open to the how. I pay attention to my intuition and take inspired action when I “hear” the action I’m to take. Gone are the days when I think I can do it better on my own. <3

Great post Rica, and excellent food for thought. I didn’t know you were capable of such inspiring posts. I was fully expecting to hear about some more about teenagers dirty clothes and men sending you pictures of their most cherished possessions! Just kidding!!!!!!!!! #RicaRocks
